Areas of Expertise
VA
Dr. Scott Lucas is a principal biomedical engineer and investigates incidents involving injury or death. In healthcare, he investigates critical patient as well as staff incidents to help healthcare facilities, medical device manufacturers, clinical providers, risk managers, attorneys, claims personnel and facilities leadership to determine injury causation and to prevent a recurrence. For these investigations, Scott performs a systems approach including on-site inspection, testing medical equipment, interviewing clinical and technical staff and reviewing medical records. Scott also addresses questions of injury causation in automotive collisions and industrial accidents. He researches injury mechanisms, human tolerance and tissue material as well as failure properties. He developed experiments with anthropomorphic test devices (ATDs), post-mortem human specimens (cadavers), and computational models to examine the human response to impact and associated injury potential.
