The Problem

The aging building can no longer meet the healthcare needs of a growing population, requiring a complete re-build of the hospital. The unconventional and complex nature of the newly proposed building design left architects struggling to achieve code compliance.

The Solution

We provided alternative fire engineering solutions in order to demonstrate compliance while maintaining the integrity of the new design, focused on egress performance, passive fire protection, active fire detection and strategic placement of firefighting shafts.

The Results

With the help of our experts, RBHSC and the architects we were able to not only establish compliance with Building Regulations requirements, but also develop a fire protection system that helps the hospital become aware of a fire earlier, evacuate more smoothly and protect against fire spread, creating improved life safety of patients, staff and visitors.
