With 33 years of experience, Iain Simpson leads the management of significant and complex security projects and maintains a detailed knowledge of the application of holistic security advice covering risk, planning, review, design and management. He specializes in providing Specialist Design and Planning Advice to ensure the upfront planning, resulting design and ongoing operation of any security application is in accordance with the client’s technical, financial and management requirements and expectations. His guidance relates to not only the electronic security requirement but also the physical hardening and operation of the facility and the application of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles in the important planning phase of a project. Iain’s extensive international consultancy experience also extends to other aspects of technology, including several types of audiovisual systems and solutions as well as wireless and some Radio Frequency (RF) systems.
Iain has served clients in the financial, healthcare, government, education and commercial sectors. Among his project highlights include serving as the Project Director responsible for the overall physical and electronic security design, including the definition of all security requirements, for Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
In the area of police, custodial and justice institutions, Iain designed, developed and provided the technical specifications security standards for all Victoria Police Stations. These security standards are now applied as a guide for the implementation of security installations in all Victoria Police 24-hour, 16-hour and eight-hour Stations throughout the State of Victoria in Australia. He also was appointed as the Victorian Government’s Technical Adviser for security, audiovisual and communication services as part of the design and construction of two new correctional facility projects under the Public Private Partnerships (PPP) program in Victoria, Australia. This scope of work included extensive client and user interaction, planning and an intensive verification and commissioning process of all services.
Previously, Iain served as Technical Director at Ejadah Asset Management Group, a subsidiary of Dubai Property Group, and Security Section Manager at Sinclair Knight Merz, which was acquired by Jacobs. While at Australia-based Umow Lai and Associates (ULA), he rose from Senior Consultant to Senior Associate of ULA and Principal of Umow Lai Communication (ULC). In addition, Iain was a Project Engineer, Project Manager and Senior Project Manager at IPP Consulting.
Iain graduated from the Australian Institute of Management with a degree in Project Management. He is certified in Radio Electronics, with a specialty in Digital Electronics, from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) University and Certified IV in Security Risk Management through Global Public Safety. He is a registered SIRA Licensed Security Consultant with the Security Industry Regulatory Agency of the Dubai Police (UAE). He is also a member of ASIS International.
Iain has written several security articles, including “Securing Heritage Buildings” and “A Beginners Guide to Alarm Systems – Parts 1 & 2” for Security Solutions, an Australian magazine.
