Donald Hopkins, PE is the Vice President, Process Improvement with more than 23 years of experience as a fire protection engineer. His expertise includes designing water-based fire suppression; gaseous suppression; fire alarm and emergency communication systems; conducting performance-based assessments including fire/smoke modeling and timed-egress analysis; and preparing code and life safety evaluations for new and existing buildings. He oversees fire protection system installations, system failure investigations, and serves as a technical expert for legal cases. Mr. Hopkins' project experience includes high-rise buildings, cleanrooms, libraries, museums, laboratories, warehouses, historic buildings, wineries, theaters and other unique/complex building designs. He is an expert at performance-based alternative design work to demonstrate code equivalencies for projects requiring analyses that entail fuel loading and hazard assessments, timed-egress studies, computational fire modeling and bench- or full-scale fire testing to evaluate specific fire hazards. Mr. Hopkins is a registered Fire Protection Engineer and currently participates on the NFPA Technical Committees on Sprinkler System Discharge Criteria, Records Storage, and Inspection, Testing and Maintenance of Water-Based Fire Protection Systems.
